Cory Michael Looper

March 10, 1982 — January 18, 2019

Cory Looper passed away January 15 at his new apartment in Aurora, Colorado, where he moved in September after graduating from Texas Tech. Graveside service: 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 28 at Nelson Cemetery for family and friends. Cory had dropped out of Tech in 2003 when he was losing his hearing and finally lost his hearing. He got a Cochlear implant and worked hard at jobs until 2015. His dream was to "finish what he started and went back to Texas Tech and graduated May 2018 in Psychology and English. His next dream was to live in Colorado, so his father drove with him to move his things and begin his new life. Cory was so happy living in snow. Cory had so many reasons to feel deprived or jealous, but he did not. Cory was born with almost no hearing and dealt with his handicap by simply loving his family and friends and wanting to be involved in everything they did. Cory was a most forgiving, loving, and caring person. He loved being included by friends and family. He shared daily with family and friends and cherished their connections through texts, calls and FaceBook. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Rudolph and Margie Looper, in Azle, where Cory loved to go "to the farm" and cut trees with Dada and eat Bombo's eggs; his grandparents Charles, Nancy and Darlene Graves in Austin, where Cory loved hanging out with his large family; and his grandfather Sheldon Schoen in New York, where Cory spent many happy summers. Cory Looper is survived by his mother Marcia Brown and stepfather Steve Brown in Houston and his father Don Looper and stepmother Cara Looper. Cory was a wonderful, loving brother to Scott Looper (38), Reed Looper (34) and Quinn Looper (24). Scott's wife Cheryl and Cory's two nieces Magness (2) and newborn Zelda, kept "Uncle Cory's room" in their home. Reed's wife Tara and Cory's niece Sadie loved having Uncle Cory in their home, and Reed and Sadie came to see him off to Colorado. Quinn and Cory were best internet friends during college and grew up playing team video games. Cory taught to love without reservation. His Uncle Chip, wife Cindy, and cousins Macey and Chase in Austin; Aunt Maurine, husband Rick Richter, and cousins Missy and Molly in Houston; Aunt Nancy, husband Allen, and cousins Stephanie, Kimberly and Sarah in Dallas; and Aunt Carolyn and husband Eddie Martinez in Austin with daughter Samantha and three sons Cory, Michael and EJ; and his grandmother Page Graves in Spicewood. He is also survived by Grandma Molly Schoen in Houston, Uncle David Schoen and Aunt Ginny in Vermont, Uncle Larry Schoen and wife Wanda in Alabama; and cousins Aleks Crecelius in Boston; James Schoen in New York City; Colby and Kayla Schoen in Alabama; all of whom Cory spent New Year's Eve at Kayla's wedding. His smile and love was infectious. Memorials: In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Cory's Name to: Voice of Hope, PO Box 2000, Lubbock, Texas 79457.
