Edward Eugene Jacobsen, a World War II veteran, community volunteer, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012. Service: Private. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate to Main Street Homecare, 450 West Main St., Azle, Texas 76020. Edward was born in Corona, N.Y., on June 17, 1928, to Catherine and Leo Jacobson. He left school to join the Merchant Marine at 16, and served aboard The Lucrecia Mott, bringing much needed oil to the ships overseas. He joined the Army at 17 and served aboard Harbor Craft 339. He met and married Irene Costello in 1948, and they were married 63 years. He joined the Loyal Order of Moose No. 1176 and rose to the rank of pilgrim. After retirement he worked at DFW airport for 10 years. Edward was preceded in death by wife, Irene; daughter, Janet; and grandchildren, Sara Harwood and Chris Alcamo. Survivors: Children, Ellen Harwood of Springtown, Irene Betancourt of Fort Worth, Edward Jacobsen Carmel of New York, Karen Goodwin of Arlington and Joann Lykins of Haslet; sister, Dorothy Ozer Garner of North Carolina; brother, Robert Jacobson of Raleigh, N.C.; numerous grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a host of family and friends.
