William Edgar ”Bill” Merritt, Sr. 89 passed away Thursday, April 21, 2022 at his home in Weatherford. Visitation: 6 to 8 P.M. Monday, April 25, 2022 at White’s Funeral Home, Weatherford. Graveside Service: 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at East Greenwood Cemetery. Bill was born September 19, 1932 in Lakeland, Georgia, son of Eddie and Gaynor Nora (Kent) Merritt. He proudly and honorably served his country for twenty years in the United States Army Air Corps, which became the United States Air Force during Bill’s service. He married the love of his life, Laura Arp on June 1, 1957 and they would go on to spend nearly 65 happy years together. Bill would go on to work for the City of Weatherford as a garage superintendent, where he also retired after 20 years of service to the citizens of Weatherford. Bill was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his loving wife, Laura Merritt; daughters, Melissa Merritt and Lorrie Merritt; sons, Warren Merritt (Lenore), Clayton Merritt and William “Bill” Merritt, Jr. (Monica); 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Ethel Floyd; brother, Leroy Merritt; and a host of other extended family members and friends.
