Virginia Ann Rawlins Littleton passed away peacefully at her family home on September 23, 2025. She spent all of her 101 years on the same block where she was born, grew up, married, raised her children, and lived her entire life.
VA’s house was a home to anybody who walked through the door, a tradition started by her parents, Bert and Clyde Rawlins and the extended family that surrounded them. She was born March 16th, 1924 and was a beacon of love and light to everyone around her. Her love of cooking and art started young and led her to pursue her Bachelor’s in Science in Home Economics at the University of Texas. She inspired generations of Longhorns to follow in her footsteps.
During her time in college, VA met Mark Harrison Littleton of Ashland, Mississippi shortly before he deployed to fight in World War II. During the three years Mark was deployed, the pair dutifully exchanged letters to keep in touch. Shortly after his return, they married in VA’s family home. They were married for 63 beautiful years and had three children: Nancy, Margaret, and Mark. The legacy of VA’s love and kindness lives on in each of her children.
Throughout her life, VA stayed committed to her childhood passions of cooking and art and shared her creations with those she loved. If VA was cooking, it was getting shared with someone whether they knew it or not. She also baked well into her 90s, blessing those around her with pies, cookies, and loaves of bread. Her artwork was displayed multiple times at the Doss Museum, often featuring local buildings and homes of the town she loved so much. Now VA is able to shine through her artwork and brighten the homes of her family members.
VA loved her community, her church family, and her own family deeply. She effortlessly made people feel like the only person in the room with her. Her sense of humor and boundless love was seen well into her last days. We invite you to celebrate her life with us at Grace First Presbyterian Church on October 18th at 11:00am.
We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to VA’s caregivers over the last two years: Kristi Gilbert, Lea Penny, Beverly Rich, Michelle Park, Toni Rhodes, Gayla Mathis, and everyone at Alpha Omega Hospice. Your love and commitment to VA was truly unmatched.
