Vera Texas Hentzen

January 24, 1926 — September 9, 2021

Vera Texas Hentzen peacefully passed away surrounded by love on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at the ripe age of 95 years old. Service: 2:00 P.M. Friday, September 17, 2021 at White’s Azle Chapel. Interment: Azleland Memorial Park. Visitation: 12:00 P.M. until service time at White’s Azle Chapel, Azle. She was the seventh of eleven children born to Clarence and Ida Martin, but the first to be born in Texas, which is where she got her middle name and the one she was best known as. Her name exemplified her Texas-sized personality and even bigger heart. She was a loving mother to three daughters, a favorite aunt to 45 nieces and nephews, and a neighborhood mom to many children. Texas loved God and lived by His word. She devoted her life to serving and uplifting others. She worked above and beyond as a newsroom call operator at the Fort Worth Star Telegram for 13 years. She also served as a volunteer at Azle Manor for 27 years, contributing five days a week until she was 91 and three days a week until she was 93. The senior residents there brought her great joy and she them. Her many contributions earned her recognition as Texas Volunteer of the Year as well as multiple days dedicated in her honor in the State of Texas, City of Fort Worth and Azle. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Clara Mae Fish and Lou Denton; brothers, Nolan, “Little Henry,” George, Crimm, J.L., Clarence, and Henry Clay; daughter, Joni Hentzen Daniels; and son-in-law, Ronnie Geary. Left to celebrate her memory are her brother, F.D. and Joyce Martin; daughters, Jeri Geary and Paula Killip; grandchildren, Amber and Derrick Adams, Justin Daniels, Brandon and Misty Geary, Brad and Ashley Geary, Lacey and Brian Corbett, Nick and Annie Killip, and Noah and Courtney Killip; great-grandchildren, Barak Geary, Kana Geary, Kellie Geary, Nola Corbett, Wyatt Geary, Warren Geary, Emmalee Adams, Easton Adams, and Novah Killip; and a multitude of nieces and nephews. She will forever be in their hearts.
