Venita Janette Glenn Winston, 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2026 in Weatherford Texas, surrounded by family and friends.
Venita was born on July 7, 1935 to Lucy Idell Vance Glenn and Olden W. Glenn in Weatherford Texas. She was a lifelong resident of Parker County. She was a Christian and was very involved in Church her entire life.
She graduated from Weatherford High School in 1953. After graduation, she attended Texas Business College and worked as Church Secretary for First Baptist Church in Weatherford.
She married the love of her life, Harry J. Winston, Jr. on November 8, 1958. They were blessed with one daughter, Linda Ann Winston Kline in 1960.
Venita was passionate about her faith, her family, her friends and her community. She adored her granddaughter and her great-grandsons.
Having been born and raised in Parker County, Venita has had a lifetime interest in the county’s history. She served as the Historian on the Weatherford City Council PTA; she was Treasurer of the Parker County Heritage Society for 10 years and an active board member for over 25 years. She served as Co-Chair for the Parker County Heritage Society’s Christmas Candlelight Tour of Homes for 2 years. She was instrumental in the 1986 restoration of the Parker County Courthouse.
Venita was appointed to the Parker Co. Historical Commission in 1979 and after 35 years on the Commission they presented her a plaque commemorating her service by Judge Mark Riley, becoming Emeritus Status 13 years ago. They also asked her to be part of the group to throw the switch to light the first annual Courthouse Christmas Tree.
She also was Treasurer for approximately 20 years of the Friends of the Weatherford Public Library, Historian for many years and a member for 45 years. Several years ago, they bestowed on her the Emeritus title.
She served from 1998-2001 on the Heritage Gallery Committee at the Library and on the Library Board.
Her interests included art, needlework, county history, genealogy, and community involvement.
Venita was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 49 years; and her brother, Shurman Glenn.
Survivors include daughter, Linda (David); granddaughter, Holly Griebel (Craig); and great-grandsons, Conrad and Carter Griebel; along with many extended cousins.
Special thanks to Autumn Hall Manor Assisted Living for the great care they provided Venita for over 6 years.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 12, 2026 at White’s Funeral Home in Weatherford Texas from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
A memorial service will be held at Lakeshore Baptist Church in Hudson Oaks on Friday, March 13, 2026 at 1 p.m.
