With hearts full of gratitude and sorrow, we announce our beloved Sydney Campbell Leonard passed away peacefully on September 15, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of strength, wisdom, and unwavering devotion.

Sydney lived a life that was beautifully wild, fiercely independent, and filled with deep love. Born on November 10, 1959 in St. Louis, Missouri, she carried a spirit of adventure from the very beginning—a spirit that truly blossomed during her teenage years in Fort Walton, Florida, where she chased the sun and found absolute freedom riding her bike directly into the ocean breeze.

After graduating from Troy University in Alabama, Sydney began working in real estate in Houston. Soon after, a pivotal opportunity changed the entire trajectory of her life when she went to work for future Secretary of State Jack Rains. Recognizing her talent, Mr. Rains brought her into the Clements for Governor campaign. Following Governor Clements’ successful election, Sydney moved to Austin to work in the Governor's office. She later served with distinction in the Texas Secretary of State’s office and capped off an illustrious governmental career working for several years for State Representative Paul Hilbert, where she was instrumental in helping pass significant water and other vital state legislation.

Sydney’s passion for service extended well beyond the capitol walls. In between legislative sessions, she was a partner in a prominent fundraising and campaign management firm, dedicating her sharp leadership skills to raising funds for charitable organizations, conservative political causes, and campaigns. In 2002, Sydney moved to Fort Worth, where she successfully managed her husband’s law office until her passing. She remained a steadfast force in her community as a dedicated member and volunteer for the Fort Worth Republican Women’s Club, where her meticulous dedication was honored with the prestigious Senator Betty Andujar Award for her outstanding years of service in club financial reporting.

Later in life, she developed a profound love for wild mustang horses. She connected deeply with their untamed beauty and strength, and she poured her heart into deeply caring and participating in training her own five mustangs.

Yet, for all her professional triumphs, Sydney's greatest joy was the warmth she shared with those closest to her. She possessed a rare capacity for deep devotion. Whether through a comforting word, a shared laugh, or a quiet act of kindness, Sydney’s presence was a steady anchor and a constant source of joy for everyone fortunate enough to be close.

Sydney was proceeded in death by her parents Schaffner Carl Campbell and Mary Holmes Campbell. 

Her beautiful memory will be cherished forever by her loving husband, Bob Leonard, Jr.; her children, Shelby (and spouse Shawn), Amanda (Jeff), Rebecca, Rob (Samantha), and Lauren; her grandchildren, Hunter (McKenna), Harrison, Colby, Cameron, Ashlynne, Austin, Nathan, Sawyer, Salix and Kelly; and the many other family members, lifelong friends and colleagues who were blessed to share in her journey. She is now reunited in eternal peace with her predeceased loved ones.

A celebration of Sydney's remarkable life will be held on October 2 at 10:30 a.m. at Ash Creek Baptist Church in Azle, Texas. In honor of Sydney’s generous spirit, please consider performing an unexpected act of kindness for someone in need.
