Susan Diane Graeber Broussard

December 22, 1948 — October 6, 2024

Arlington, Texas

Susan Diane Graeber Broussard was born December 22, 1948, in London, England and departed this earth October 6, 2024, with her family by her side.

Memorial Visitation: 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2024, at White’s Funeral Home, 105 Denver Trail Azle, Texas.

She loved her husband Robert, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. She might have loved her dogs and horse a little more. She told us what they were doing every day.

She got to America as soon as she could. She loved fishing, knitting, gardening and the military. She believed in the freedoms we had and thanked those who served. There was no greater sacrifice than fighting for your country. She would line graves with flags and wreathes at Christmas. She wanted them to know they mattered. She knit hats for nurses, families, neighbors and hospitals. If she made you a hat it meant she liked you, and “You bloody well should wear it.”

She loved fishing and was quite good at it. She was not going to be out fished. She could bait it, catch it, and get her rod back in the water before her son Nick. Yes Nick, sometimes her fish were bigger.

Four years ago, she got diagnosed with red blood cell aplasia that would rapidly change to Aplastic Anemia. It meant she didn’t make red cells, white cells, and platelets. In 4 years, she received over 1,000 units of blood. She was brave too and faced each one with hope. There were endless hospitalizations, infections from low counts and chemotherapy. If you were her nurse during her hospitalizations, God Bless you. She would tell you what you’re doing right and wrong and you better know what the medicine was for. She watched Dr Oz and read Web MD so she too was well educated. If you were her Dr, best of luck to you. She wasn’t quitting and she wasn’t going down without a fight. A year ago, her husband Robert retired hoping to kick the can down the road a little longer. His love for her is like no other. He too fought this fight every step of the way. On October 6th, God sought to call her home.

She leaves behind her husband, Robert; her sister, Sheila Pashian; her son, Nick and daughter-in-law, Vickie Smith; her daughter, Sheila and son-in-law, Brett Mills; her son, Gary and daughter-in-law, Andrea Graeber. She has nine grandchildren, James O’Neal, Chase Mills, Lindsay Mills, Hunter Mills, Megan Mills, Brandon Graeber, Sam Graeber, Jack Graeber, and Kaitlyn Graeber. She also has five great- grandchildren, Jude Mills, Liam Mills, Elora Mills, Jaden O’Neal, and Cohen Casey.

We would like to thank Community Hospice, THR Arlington Memorial Hospital and especially their On, and oncology group. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate to your local blood bank in her honor.
