Shirley was born on June 30, 1935, in Seminole, Oklahoma. Her family moved to Liberator Village, a part of White Settlement, during WWII, where her stepfather was employed at the Convair bomber plant. She graduated from Trimble Tech High School in 1953 and afterwards worked various clerical jobs until 1966 when she became a school secretary for Fort Worth ISD until 1991 when she retired.

In 1974, Don and Shirley moved from Benbrook to Weatherford where they lived for almost 50 years.  After retirement Don and Shirley loved traveling together in their motorhome, with their travels taking them to all lower 48 states and all the Canadian provinces. They made many friends traveling over the years, and Shirley particularly enjoyed camping with her many friends from Weatherford and Fort Worth.  She was a member of North Side Baptist Church and formerly volunteered for Parker County Meals on Wheels, delivering meals to residents in Springtown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald McCauley; son, David McCauley; and parents, Wilford Osborn and Opal Bradbeary.
