Sharon Arlene Garrett

September 10, 1954 — July 17, 2025

Mineral Wells, Texas

Sharon Arlene Garrett, 70, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at her home in Mineral Wells, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. Her passing follows a year-long ordeal with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer.

Sharon was born on September 10, 1954 to Patricia and Jack Strickland, in Oak Park, Illinois. The family eventually settled in northwest Houston, where Sharon and her sister Cynthia grew up. Sharon attended Waltrip High School and then went on to Stephen F. Austin State University, earning a degree in finance.

While attending SFA, she met the love of her life, Dale Garrett of Garrison, Texas. The young couple were married on September 3, 1977 and bought a home in Garrison, later moving to Houston’s Glenshire subdivision where they raised their two boys, Matthew and Stephen. Sharon spent these years as a homemaker, occasionally turning her keen financial sense toward bookkeeping jobs.

In 2008, with their boys out of the house, Sharon and Dale embarked on the adventure of a lifetime. They sold their home in Houston and spent the next ten years on the road as full-time RV’ers. They criss-crossed the US, spending time in Wyoming, Texas, Massachusetts, and California, making friends and touching many lives along the way. Sharon especially loved the scenery and wildlife of the Yellowstone area, spending a great deal of time in Cody, Wyoming.

When they were ready to settle down again, Sharon and Dale found a new home in Mineral Wells, Texas. Sharon spent her time in Mineral Wells in peaceful retirement, enjoying her backyard pool and frequently playing host to her grandchildren.

With her quick wit and easygoing nature, Sharon made friends easily throughout her life. She spent many years as an active participant in community groups like the PTA, forming lifelong bonds with her Glenshire neighbors along with fellow work-campers. Friends and family alike will miss her friendly smile and carefree laugh, both of which she gave generously.

Sharon enjoyed traveling, listening to music, visiting with friends and family, knitting, and watching her grandkids play baseball. She especially enjoyed relaxing in the pool with her beloved husband, Dale, and her kids, grandkids, and daughters-in-law.

Sharon is survived by her husband of 48 years, Dale Garrett; her sister, Cynthia Strickland of Clear Lake, Texas; sons, Matthew Garrett and his wife, Jessica, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Stephen Garrett and his wife, Kathryn, of Austin, Texas; and four grandchildren, Logan Bell-Johnson, Morgan Garrett, Hazel Garrett, and Charlie Garrett.

A viewing will be held on Monday, July 21, 2025 at White’s Funeral Home, 101 N. E. 4th Avenue in Mineral Wells, Texas.

A celebration of life will follow at Sharon’s home in Mineral Wells.
