Samuel “Sammy” Thomas Byrd, 85, passed away on January 12, 2024, into the loving arms of Jesus. Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m., Friday, January19, 2024, at White's Funeral Home Chapel in Springtown. Visitation: 1-2 p.m., Friday, January 19, 2024, at White's Funeral Home Chapel in Springtown. Sammy was born in Jackson, Mississippi to John and Modena Byrd. He met his bride and love of his life, Judy, in 1980. They were married in 1981 and went on to spend 43 wonderful years together. Sammy retired from Merchants Fast Motor Trucking Line after 22 years of service. He went on to become an independent trucker where he was so proud of his trucking company, he named it Grandbaby “GB” Trucking to tie his love for his trucking and grandkids together. He and Judy later moved to Springtown, TX, where they purchased land. He learned to love tractors, farming, bailing hay, and most of all the country life. He had a devotion to his faith and congregation at First Baptist Church of Cottondale. He served with a love of Christ catering to the widows, widowers, elderly and supported his love of various ministries and Jews for Jesus. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. His laughter, pink Crocs, stories, and wisdom of his company will be missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Modena Byrd; brothers, Richard Edgar Byrd, William Morris Byrd, Marshall (Sugarman) Byrd, John Robert Byrd; two sisters, Barbara Josephine Byrd Bishop, Mildred Byrd Miller; daughter, Lori McKinney and grandson Kayden McKinney; and son-in-law, Ceasar Belser. Survivors include his loving wife of 43 years, Judy; children, John Mark Byrd and wife Vivian; Lisa Belser Chasteen and husband Jack; 11 grandchildren, Lauren Walker and husband Dustin, Brittany Null, Chase Gardner, Christian McKinney, Brenden McKinney and wife Kaylee, Jennessa McKinney, Kaylee McKinney, Samantha Byrd, Katelyn Byrd, Cody Grammer and wife Morgan, and Justin Grammer; 5 Great- grandchildren, Addyson Walker, Sylvia Walker, Harrison Newman, Amelia Grammer, and Emilia Gardner; 3 sisters, Faye Mahaffey and husband Grady, Marilyn Parish and husband Jimmy, Cheryl Meadows and husband Edwin; sister-in-law; Linda Keel and husband Edsel; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
