Russell Shane Whitesides
February 8, 1980 – December 3, 2025
Russ Whitesides was a man drawn to the wild and the meaningful. He found peace on the water, excitement in the hunt, joy in cooking for others, and freedom on long, winding road trips—also known as “old man days.” He gathered friends like treasures, welcomed every sunrise, and believed coffee was appropriate at any hour. But nothing captured his heart the way his two sons did—they were his purpose, his delight, and his proudest legacy.
He also loved the long conversations he shared with his wife, Audrey—talks about politics, religion, and the mysteries of this life that stretched late into the night and became a thread of their marriage.
He will be laid to rest near the water, in the quiet places that felt most like home to him.
He was preceded in death by his step-father, Bubba Proctor; cousin, Zane Whitesides; Aunt DeeDee Rice; and numerous grandparents and great-grandparents who were an unforgettable part of Russ’s childhood.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Audrey Harless Whitesides, and his sons, Finn and Gabe Whitesides, who live to cherish and honor his memory. Russ is also remembered by his parents, Julie Proctor and Thomas Arthur “Tomy” and Georgeann Whitesides; in-laws, Nathan and Dez Harless and Tamara and Johanna King; grandparents, Marlena Rice (Granga), Noma Williamson (GNoma), and Mary Paul Proctor (MawMaw); uncles, Todd Whitesides, and Charles Rice; Aunt Debbie King; brother-in-law and best friend, Sam, and his wife, Lauren Harless; siblings, Courtney Proctor and Craig Ginkinger, Kelsey and Jake Sealy, Matt and Stephanie Truelove, Logan and Krisha Truelove, Jordan and Kassie Truelove, and Klanci and Steven Pinkard; Galen and Penny Bogard; Charles and Sandy White; Ronald and Sareesa Proctor; Sam and Adriane Sparks; Aron Lee and Carlie Hendrickson-Lee; Edward and Cindy Adams; Austin and Cameron Churkey; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
