Russell William Gilbert

July 25, 1944- January 31, 2026

It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Russell William Gilbert, cherished husband, devoted father, and beloved grandfather.

Russ was born in Canada, came to the U.S. playing drums in a band, where he was drafted into the U.S. Army and spent time serving in the Vietnam war. After getting out he worked in Saginaw, Michigan, as an electrician at Saginaw Steering Gear. After retiring, he moved to Poolville, Texas where he lived out his final days with his wife of 36 years, Karen Sarow Gilbert.

Throughout his life Russ enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting, and fishing. He was very handy around the house and was a whiz with a computer. His kids knew if you asked for help with homework, by the time he was done, you could probably teach the class the next day. Russ could also be found cheering his kids and grandkids on at their sporting events. Russ was also a very good drummer. He was known to play at many of the family weddings, and played in the church band in Texas.

Russ is survived by his wife, Karen Sarow Gilbert; his children, Kim (Rob) White, Tim (Marquetta) Gilbert, Ashley Harfoot, and Ron (Stephanie) Krawczyk; and grandchildren, Hunter White, Gage (Megan) White, Markie Hooton, William Hooton, Liam Gilbert, Katie Harfoot, Damien Smith, Juliette Smith, Casimer Krawczyk, and Tilly Krawczyk.
