On Sunday morning, January 4, 2026, Jesus took Roger Allen Smith to his heavenly home. Born on May 5, 1956 to Ray and Bernice Smith in Monroe, Louisiana, Roger was the fourth of 5 children.
Roger learned his work ethic from his dad while working on the family farm in Choudrant, Louisiana.
Not desiring to incur student loan debt for college, Roger worked at the Piggly Wiggly grocery store in Ruston, Louisiana to pay for his education.
While majoring in music at Louisiana Tech University, in Ruston, Louisiana, Roger met the love of his life, Susan Eleanor Smith (she’s a Smith-Smith). They married on July 21, 1979. He continued his college education, but changed his major to Computer Science. After graduating in 1982, Roger and Susan moved to Ft. Worth, Texas, where he began his computer programming career at General Dynamics (Lockheed Martin). He left after a couple of years to pursue contracting computer programming work.
Roger and Susan welcomed sons Jon in 1983 and Shawn in 1989, and daughter Krystal in 1992. He deeply loved his family and was a caring and generous person.
Roger enjoyed singing in church choirs and playing handbells, working outside on his tractor and land, playing video games, was a dedicated Bible scholar, and took pleasure in exercising his second amendment rights.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Bernice Smith, and his brothers, Bobby, Carl, and Lonnie Smith.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years, Susan; children, Jon (Carolyn), Shawn, and Krystal; granddaughters, Landry and Emi Smith; sister, LaVerne Roberts; in-laws, Terry and Sharon Smith, Ed and Dorothy Sherrod, Bob and Peggy Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to your favorite charity.
It is an understatement to say that he is so deeply missed. Until we meet again …
