After graduating in 1956, he joined the US Army. His athletic ability led him to play on the Army Basketball team. His military career eventually led him to Fort Wolters in Mineral Wells, Texas. After thirty-five years as a dedicated Civil Service employee, he retired as Communication Director over thirteen states. Upon retiring in 1993, he purchased property in Parker County where he was blessed to spend twenty nine years doing the things he loved. He raised registered Angus Cattle, farmed, cut hay for himself and others and raised a large garden. He made sure he always had enough to share the fruits of his labor with his friends and family. Louis was a member of the Millsap United Methodist Church for many years participating in various renovation projects on the historic Church building. Through the years Louis also helped several organizations and civic groups in Palo Pinto and Parker County by volunteering his time, carpentry expertise and general knowledge. One project in particular bringing him back to work with the Fort Wolters Historical Committee. Though he usually was working on a project. He was not all work and no play. He also loved Country and Western dancing and he spent many hours on the dance floor perfecting his skill.
