Rheta Roice Hughes

On May 29, 2021, Rheta Hughes, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed peacefully from this earth at the age of 86 in Springtown.

 Funeral service: Saturday, June 5, 2021, 10:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Cottondale. 

Interment: Saturday, June 5, 2021, at 4:00 p.m., at the Phillips Cemetery in Travis. 

Visitation: Friday, June 4, 2021 from 6 to 8 p.m. at White’s Funeral Home Chapel.

 She was born June 15, 1934 in Lott, Texas to Bettie Maud Joiner McAlpine and Preston McAlpine. Rheta lived a full life. She worked a short time as a beautician, but was better known for her work as a proud homemaker. She loved sewing, gardening, traveling, family, farming and the life she got to live on their family farm. Rheta was a devout Christian with a servant’s heart who loved her church community.

 She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Hughes; son, David Hughes; brother, Verdell McAlpine; sisters, Beatrice Taylor, Merdell Triggs, and Ruth Solomon.

 Rheta is survived by her son, Doug Hughes of Springtown; granddaughters, Stacy Hughes of Mineral Wells, Ashley Hughes of Springtown, and Halle Hughes of Springtown; great granddaughter, Tavyn Mayes of Mineral Wells; sister, Frances Westerman of Lott; cousin, Lois Vinson (EC Vinson) of Houston; and many nieces, nephews and friends. 

She was loved dearly and will be missed by all who knew her.
