Reta Joyce Kinyon

September 26, 1935 — June 10, 2022

Reta Joyce Kinyon, age 86 of Brock, Texas passed away on Friday, June 10, 2022 and went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Reta was born in Long Leaf, Louisiana on September 26, 1935 to Herman Taylor and Jessie Lee Sullivan. She grew up in Oakdale, Louisiana where her father was a pastor and her mother worked as a nurse. In her growing up years, Reta participated in basketball, was active in missions programs, and sang in the church and school choirs. She was honored to be a part of the Louisiana All State Choir for two years. She also played piano, sang and loved to get shakes and malts at the local pharmacy after school with friends. After she finished Oakdale High School, Reta attended Louisiana College from which she graduated in 1957 and then went on to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and while there she met her future husband, Bill Kinyon. They married on August 24, 1958. Bill worked for General Dynamics while Reta worked as a secretary. In 1965 they welcomed twin girls into their family and in 1970, the couple moved to Brock after purchasing a farm. Their third daughter was born in 1971 and the Kinyon’s proceeded to raise their family, bushels of vegetables, many cows, and lots of hay. Reta returned to school and earned a Master of Education degree from Tarleton State University and in 1973 began her educational career in Brock I.S.D., where she served by teaching kindergarten, then first grade, and finally, second grade for 28 years. As a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, Reta was a member of Brock Baptist Church and then First Baptist Church of Weatherford where she served with her musical gifts by singing in the choir and participating in Christmas pageants. She also taught a ladies Sunday School class, helped with vacation bible school, church events and many other aspects of church life. She sought to use her time, talents and treasures to love and serve others. Reta was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Kinyon; her parents, Herman and Jessie Sullivan; and her brother, Herman “Buzzy” Sullivan. She is survived by three daughters, Kara (David) Baldwin, Kristi Hayworth, and Katrina (Glen) Schulgen; her sister, Linda (Leo) Sullivan-Bashinsky; sister-in-law, Carol Ann Sullivan; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ralph and Janice Kinyon; as well as grandchildren, Brent Baldwin, Brooke Baldwin, Stephen Hayworth, Daniel (Mattie) Hayworth, Katherine Hayworth, Benjamin Schulgen, and Abigail Schulgen; and great-grandson, Paxton Hayworth.
