Change of service location - White's Funeral Home, Azle Chapel - 105 Denver Trail, Azle. Paula Seipp, 67, passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, in Springtown. Celebration of Life: Monday, August 7, 2:00 PM, Whites Funeral Home, Azle Chapel - 105 Denver Trail, Azle – In honor of her wishes, casual dress is encouraged and preferred. Paula was born March 16, 1956 in El Paso, TX to Albin and Tommie Kurns, with older brother Sanford (Sandy) Kurns ready to play. Having attended Ysleta ISD schools and graduating from Eastwood HS, she went on to study at Sul Ross State University, completing both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree. While her original intention was to become a Vet Tech, a story she shared often, a distinct fear of blood changed her major to Education and there she found where she belonged. Across multiple grade levels, predominately in Middle School and High School, which she taught in Burnet CISD and Springtown ISD for 40 years, retiring in 2018. She loved teaching and worked hard to support students in her classroom, thriving on those moments when her ‘kids’ felt that light bulb of critical thinking and seeing the world in new ways. Known for her eclectic classroom decorations, a vast collection of idioms (a favorite being ‘that dog won’t hunt’) and the unique variety of shoes to match, she ventured out in hopes of seeing her graduates and hearing updates about their lives, families and careers. One of her proudest moments was being recognized as the Teacher of the Year at Springtown HS. While battling breast cancer in the early 2000’s and having won, she was again called to fight in 2018 with a diagnosis of MDS. After a successful bone marrow transplant and a lengthy recovery, she was declared ‘cured’ recently and was looking forward to spending more time sharing her love of reading, stickers, legos and coloring books with her grandsons. Winning this battle was another one of her proudest moments. Although she was a teacher at heart, at her core she was proudest to be called “Omie” by her two grandsons whom she loved deeply. In almost every conversation, she could find a way to bring up a story or a picture (or 3) to share of their adventures. She is survived by her son, Kyle and his wife Gretchen, grandsons Benjamin and Grey Seipp, and former husband Lonnie Seipp. She is also survived by her long-time best friend, Linda Grant and her husband Buzz. Paula was preceded in death by her parents, Albin and Tommie, her brother Sandy, and ‘son’ John Akinloye. In lieu of flowers, and to honor her request, please consider donating to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org) in her name. Similarly, in honor of her passion for reading and written word, share a book, conversation and smile with a friend or loved one. ‘Do not go gentle into that good night.
