Oscar Edward Holloway, 93, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, went home to be with the Lord and to join his beloved wife, Mary, on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at his home in Granbury. Graveside Service: 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2021 in East Greenwood Cemetery, Weatherford. Visitation: 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, June 4, 2021 at White’s Funeral Home, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford. Oscar was born November 11, 1927 in Oklahoma, son of Luther Clarence and Sophie Holloway. He married Mary Evelyn Holcomb on July 3, 1948 and they spent many happy years together until Mary passed on December 13, 2020. Oscar joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country on the USS Norris after World War II in occupation forces along the coast of China, from 1946 to 1948. Oscar attended Weatherford College, A & M in Oklahoma, and University of North Texas in Denton, earning a Bachelor’s Degree. He also took some pre-med classes. Oscar taught in Haskell for one year. He then worked for several oil well companies, including Halliburton, and WellEx in Midland, Andrews, Odessa and Abilene. He also worked for El Paso Natural Gas for five years. Oscar resumed teaching in El Paso from 1964 to 1968, then moved to Weatherford and taught Jr. High. While in Weatherford he lived on Bridge Street and then on Vine Street, before moving to the farm in 1986 where he raised and loved chickens, cows, rabbits and sheep. In 2012 he sold the farm and in 2020, he moved to Granbury to be near his daughter. Oscar loved teaching science and had fun with experiments. He met many students and nurses later who were in his class that told him they enjoyed and remembered his experiments and his pet albino catfish. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Mary Evelyn Holloway; his parents, Luther & Sophie Holloway; and son, Glen Edward Holloway. Survivors: Daughter, Dona Buie; grandchildren, Kristy Harris, Roman Holloway, Brady Weaver and Michael Weaver; nephews, Rene Holcomb, Mark and Marsha Holloway, and Jeff Holloway; and nieces, Angie Bass and husband, Benny, Rhodell, Oleta, and Connie Holloway; several great-grandchildren; and one great great-granddaughter.
