To Watch Service Click Here Oliver James “O.J.” Perkins, age 86, loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away on Sunday, December 18th, 2022, in a hospital in Fort Worth. Funeral Service: 10 a.m. Thursday, December 29, 2022 in White’s Chapel of Memories, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford, Texas 76086. Graveside Service: 1 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2022 at DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211. O.J. was born in DeRidder, Louisiana on June 27th, 1936, the son of Booker T. Perkins and Georgia Caesar McKay. He graduated from high school in DeRidder and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Tennessee A & I State University. After graduating college, he joined the United States Army and served his country honorably. O.J. worked extensively as a contractor overseas in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Nigeria. While in Nigeria O.J., along with others, worked tirelessly to build communities. He was also an avid golfer, who while in Africa, sponsored golf tournaments that inspired many African children to embrace the sport. To this day, these golf tournaments continue. O.J. was also known for his great cooking, and his 4th of July celebrations will be greatly missed. Over the years, O.J. has touched many lives, and he will be missed by all who knew him. O.J. is preceded in death by parents, Booker T. Perkins, and Georgia Caesar McKay; his wife of 34 years, Nancy Perkins; brothers Winson Ray Perkins, George Martin Mckay Jr., and Elton Glen Mango. He is survived by his sons, Oliver and wife, Carla Perkins of Birmingham, Alabama, Clement and Marian Edionwele of Suffolk, Virginia, Kenneth and Wanda Perkins of Town Creek, Alabama; grandchildren, Oliver James Perkins, III, Odion R. Edionwele, Akhere D. Edionwele, Osemudiamen A. Edionwele, Calvin Lynn Simmons and wife, Netera, Tawynda Simmons, and Kenneth Todd Perkins, Jr.; six great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Bennie Mae Perkins, and Jonnie Mae Mango; brothers, Laurance Dunbar Guidry, and Gail Nell McKay; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
