Nancy Jean Thurman, of Weatherford, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 8, 2025. She was born in 1940 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, to Martha and Louis Payne.
Nancy lived a life full of grace and powerful love, a living example of God’s goodness in every way. She was known for her kindness, her vibrance, and the way she lit up a room and every life she touched. She dedicated her days to her beloved husband, Charles, to her two children Taz and Amy, and to serving others as both a nurse and a lifelong friend to all who had the honor of knowing her.
She was a faithful woman of God, a grandmother, and a great great-grandmother. Her goodness and grace will live on through the generations as leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and steadfast faith.
Nancy is survived by her son, Taz Thurman, whom she cherished deeply; her granddaughter, whom she raised and loved immensely, Elizabeth Clayton; her grandsons, Gabriel and Thomas; and her great-grandchildren, Grayson and Ava. Nancy’s siblings are Micheal, Alyce, Debbie and Trey.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles Thurman-whose spirit and goodness she carried with her for the rest of her days; as well as her daughter, Amy Thurman.
Fulfilling her wishes, Nancy will be cremated. In keeping with her desire for simplicity, there will be no funeral or formal services, only a mass at St. Stephen. She wished for all who knew her to celebrate her life personally and individually, remembering her in their own hearts and in their own way.
“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all” - Proverbs 31:28-29
