Nancy Josephine Burgoyne

May 4, 1943 — May 9, 2025

Weatherford, Texas

Nancy Josephine Burgoyne, beloved wife, mother of five, and friend to many, peacefully passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025 at 82 years of age in Fort Worth, Texas. Nancy had been suffering with many aliments for years, and will be remembered for her fighting spirit and will to live.

Nancy was born on May 4, 1943 in Johnston City, Illinois to Don and Avis Hinckle. The family eventually moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin where Nancy attended Franklin Jr. High School, and West High School. While attending Jr. High, Nancy, 13, met the love of her life, John Burgoyne. The two were married in 1961 in Green Bay and had five children. Recently, Nancy reflected that her life with John was greater than she could have ever imagined from their humble beginnings at the ages of 18 and 19. Nancy called John her “rock”.

Throughout their almost 65 year marriage, John and Nancy lived a life of adventure, living in many wonderful places and creating many lifelong friendships. The couple resided in Green Bay, Wisconsin; Neenah, Wisconsin; New Orleans, Louisiana; Shreveport, Louisiana; Richardson, Texas; Denver, Colorado; Colleyville, Texas; Beijing, China, and finally Weatherford, Texas. Nancy often spoke of the marvelous memories that were created in each place the family called home.

Nancy held many jobs over her lifetime, including a newspaper reporter, a realtor, an orthodontist assistant, and volunteer firefighter. However, Nancy’s most notable role was as an amazing mother to her children, Bill, Michelle, Joelle, Andrea, and Brian. She was a treasured Nana to her 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Nancy dearly loved her family. She is remembered as being generous with her time to those in need, being a remarkable chef, possessing steadfast faith, having a great sense of humor, and enjoying a great vintage of champagne.

Nancy volunteered for many organizations throughout her life, ranging from volunteer Brownie leader to volunteer firefighter and EMT with the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department. During her almost 20 years as a firefighter/EMT, Nancy served as Chaplain and head of the Emergency Medical Services Department. Nancy was proud to be the only female Master Firefighter in Parker County in her early career. Nancy loved being a firefighter and helped wherever she was needed…even if it was driving the large, 50,000 pound water tanker!

Nancy was preceded in death by both of her parents; her brother, Dale Hinckle; her grandsons, Drew Hensell, and Logan Hensell.

She is survived by her husband, John Burgoyne; her children, Bill Burgoyne and wife, Kim, Michelle Hall and husband, Dalton, Joelle Hensell, Andrea Sullivan and husband, Mike, and Brian Burgoyne; grandchildren, Lauren Burgoyne, Dillon Hensell, Hannah Sullivan (Love), Reid Hall, Hayden Hensell, Makenzie Sullivan, Barrett Hall, Arden Hall, Sean Sullivan, Brett Burgoyne, Ava Grace Hall, and Ryan Sullivan; great-grandchildren, Lucy Sullivan-Love, Harper Hensell, and Leona Sullivan-Love.
