Mike was born on October 12, 1946 to Alvin Herbert and Esmarie Cockburn Bernhardt of Weatherford. Raised on the family dairy in Poolville, Mike learned early the value of hard work — a lesson that translated into owning and operating a flooring business in Weatherford for nearly 50 years, building a reputation for honest work and earning the trust of generations of customers who became lifelong friends. He was also a longtime member of the Weatherford Lions Club and a proud veteran of the United States National Guard.

Mike lived life fully from the start. In his younger years, he was an adventurer — racing cars, riding bulls, traveling, hunting, and never passing up a chance to enjoy life. Mike was happiest with a project in front of him — whether it was construction, ranching, or fixing something most people would have given up on. He never met a stranger, and anyone who spent five minutes with him left with a story, a laugh, or an opinion about how to fix the problems in the world. But his greatest joys were his daughters and later, his grandchildren— and teaching them all how things are done: how to work hard, fix what's broken, and take pride in doing a job right.

Mike is survived by his daughters, Michelle Barry and husband, Don, and Marisa Harrison and husband, Brandon; his grandchildren, Stryker Barry, Zander Barry, Parker Harrison, and Hannah Harrison; and many dear friends and family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Sanford Bernhardt.
