Michael John Wortman, Sr.

December 11, 1947 — April 18, 2021

Michael John Wortman, Sr. passed away on April 18, 2021 in Fort Worth surrounded by his loving family. In the last years of his life he had been combating Parkinson’s disease, and in these final months, fighting a courageous battle with a respiratory illness that ultimately took his life. A small memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 23 at Brock United Methodist Church, 127 Lazy Bend Rd, Weatherford, TX 76087. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, it will be family only and we will be following CDC guidelines for social distancing and wearing facial coverings. We would be honored to have you join us via livestream: http://brockumc.com/wortman In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Michael J Fox Foundation to further the fight against Parkinson’s disease. https://www.michaeljfox.org/donate Michael was born in Chicago, Illinois to Virgil Wortman and Ruby Wortman. After his father’s premature death, he was raised in Mason, Texas and then graduated from Weatherford High School where he met the love of his life, Jacque. He earned his Bachelor’s of Science from the University of Texas at Arlington and then received his master’s degree from Dallas Baptist University in 2001. After working for Southwestern Bell for 28 years he started his own business, Home Safe Inspections, and taught business classes for Dallas Baptist University. When Mike wasn’t singing silly songs about Jasper the Wonder Dog, he was telling ghost stories around the campfire or working on any number of projects. Mike was a man of faith and a dedicated member of Brock United Methodist Church. He poured himself into others and wore many hats: husband, father, brother, Paw Paw, uncle, Scout Master, coach, band booster, quest maker and photographer to name a few. He was an avid traveler and self-proclaimed food & wine expert. His love of donuts topped even that of Homer Simpson. Michael was our biggest fan and most zealous supporter. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael John Wortman, Jr.; and sister, Mickey Staron. Survivors: devoted wife of 53 years, Jacque Wortman; daughters, Suzanne Stroman and Alison Lunardon; grandchildren, Katherine and Knox Stroman; sister, Patty Broyles; sons-in-law Jeff Stroman and Christopher Lunardon; along with countless other friends and family. We will miss him every day and will do our best to make him proud.
