Melva Jean Pennington, of Springtown, TX died in Azle on September 20, 2017. She was 89.Services:  Funeral Service Saturday, September 23, 2017, 10 AM Springtown Church of Christ               Visitation:  Friday, September 22, 2017, 6-8 PM, White's Funeral Chapel, Springtown               Interment:  Springtown CemeteryJean is survived by her children: daughters Pennie Hart and husband Bruce of Aztec,NM and LindaLong of Springtown; Sons Len Pennington and wife Robin of Springtown, Lee Pennington and wifeDarlene of Springtown, and Chris Pennington and wife Jennifer of Poolville; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and eleven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, Leonard Pennington; daughter Dinah Greene and husband K.D.; her parents, W. W. and Mable Day; siblings Kenneth Day and Nina Fay Aylmer; and grandchildren Karl Kohlman and Amber Kelley .Jean was born on December 21, 1927 in McKinney, Tx to Bill and Mable (Teague) Day. Most of her childhood and early adult life was spent on or around the “mill block” in McKinney with her parents, grand-parents, siblings, and extended family and friends. She and Leonard (married in 1948) moved to Springtown in 1968.  While she worked when and where needed to help support the family – Bell Telephone as an operator or at the Texas Cotton Mill in McKinney in the 40’s; wrapping packages at Montgomery Ward during Christmastime in the 1950’s; later at Springtown ISD (70’s and 80’s) and the Springtown Church of Christ (1990’s) – her primary occupation was that of wife, mother, grandmother andhomemaker. She was known as a caretaker (nursing both of her parents, her husband, and her daughter through lengthy illnesses) and an outstanding cook – fried chicken was always a hit.She enjoyed caring for and bragging on her grand-children, telling stories about the good-old-days,letting everyone know how handsome Leonard was, and going to church.
