Mary Elizabeth Steen

Millsap

Mary Elizabeth Myrick Steen, 73, entered into her Savior’s embrace on August 11, 2026, in Fort Worth, surrounded by her husband and children.

Mary was born May 13th, 1953 in San Antonio, Texas, to William R. and Kathleen Hayes Myrick. Because her father served in the military, Mary moved around frequently as a child before her family eventually settled in North Richland Hills, where she graduated from high school. When Mary was 19, she met the love of her life, James Steen. They were married on August 31st, 1974 in Lake Worth, and moved to Springtown shortly thereafter to raise their family.

Mary attended the University of North Texas, earning a master’s degree and becoming a Certified Public Accountant. She worked very hard at her job and built a successful career with Sally Beauty Supply in Denton, where she served as Vice President of Human Resources. Her career gave her the opportunity to travel throughout the United States and around the world.

Mary was amazing, smart, kind, generous, and above all, loving. She was always ready to help her family if they needed anything. She was especially talented with numbers and was an avid reader. When she was not busy with family or church activities, she could easily finish several books in a weekend. She also loved to travel with her lifelong friends Joe and Jonell Sinquefield and visited nearly every state in the country, making many special memories along the way.

Family was at the center of Mary's life. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as Meems, and never wanted to miss an important moment in their lives. She loved spending time with them or going to their sporting and school events with her husband. She especially treasured holidays and gatherings with her family and was happiest when everyone was together. Christmas was a time when her generosity was on full display, and she loved to spoil her grandchildren

Mary was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Springtown, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she passed that faith along to her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William R. and Kathleen Myrick; her brother, Mark Myrick; and her grandson, Tre’ Steen.

Mary is survived by her husband of 52 years, James Steen; her daughters, Deanna Latigo and husband Eli, and Julie Gregory and husband Jared, and her son Jimmy Steen and wife Lacey; her grandchildren, Tyler Graham, Amy Latigo, Jackson Gregory, Georgia Gregory, Judah Gregory, Caden Steen, and Rhett Steen; her brother, John Myrick and wife Lori; her sister, Joan Cobb and husband Brian; and her brother, Billy Myrick, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.
