Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 3, 2021 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 108 N. W. 4th Ave., Mineral Wells. Interment: Woodland Park Cemetery, Mineral Wells. Mary was born February 11, 1946, the youngest of twelve brothers and sisters, to Mateo and Bessie Alcala. She grew up in and around Coleman, Texas where she met and married her husband, Johnny Mendoza, on June 19, 1965. They moved to Mineral Wells, Texas, eventually buying property north of town where they raised four children. Mary was an employee of the Mineral Wells Sewing Factory, TRW Optron, Optek, Dews Company, and S-Tec, where she made many friends and had a positive effect on all who knew her. Mary’s life was defined by her constant faith in God and love for His people. She instilled strong faith and love of God and Christ to her children. She was always available to counsel and pray with family, friends or anyone in need of God’s healing. Mary attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Coleman, Texas. Upon moving to Mineral Wells in 1968 she joined our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where she attended mass faithfully. All of her life she often opened her home for prayer meetings, and often traveled to pray for ailing or troubled family, friends, and fellow Christians. She served the Catholic community as a member of The Our Lady of Lourdes Guadalupe Society as a Guadalupana. Mary struggled when she was very young after the loss of her mother at the age of 2, and her father abandoned her. Out of the kindness of their hearts, other extended family members (cousins) took her in to raise her as their own daughter and sister. Mary considered them to be her brothers and sisters. Extended family members are Mateo and Chuna Alcala, Lupe Alcala, Zoilo Alcala, Cecil Alcala, Noni Ramirez, Julia De La Rosa, Estephana Medrano, and Olivia Medrano. Finally in her late teen years she reunited with her father, Mateo and step-mother Chona Alcala. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Mateo and Bessie Alcala; step-mother, Chono Alcala; husband, Johnny Mendoza; grandson, Brandon Mendoza; great-grandson, Noah Ochoa; ten brothers and sisters, brothers, Silverio Alcala, Pete Alcala, Alberto (Chano) Alcala, Joe (Jose) Alcala, Jerry (Gerardo) Alcala, Ricky (Enrique) Alcala and sisters, Antonia Alcala Munoz, Manuela Reyes, Gloria Mendieta, and Maria Aguirre; and numerous beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
