Mary Jane "Janie" Davis

June 14, 1942 — December 18, 2022

Mary Jane Davis, 80, beloved mother, grandmother, sister-in-law, cousin and friend passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2022. Funeral Service: 10 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2022 at Harmony Baptist Church, 242 Harmony Road, Weatherford. Interment: 2 p.m. at Greenwood Memorial Park in Fort Worth. Jane, also called Janie by some, was born June 14, 1942 in Fort Worth, daughter of Gus and Mildred (Washburn) Green. Her daddy was her hero. He worked for General Dynamics, building, designing and test flying planes, including the B-36 among others, until he was killed in a car accident. Jane graduated from Arlington Heights High School and took some classes at TCU, where she dated Bob Lilly a few times. She married Philip French, Jr. and they lived North of Weatherford for about seven years, then they moved to Cresson where she and Philip raised their two children, Elizabeth and Phil, all the while running a working cattle ranch of over 2,000 head until the children were 13 and 14 years old, at which time Jane and the children left and moved to town. Jane married Christian F. “Sonny” Davis, and they moved to Kent in about 1988 and they ran the ranch until his passing in 1991. She stayed and continued to work the ranch alongside her son, Phil, until they sold the ranch in 2000. Jane then moved to Stephenville and worked at David’s Western Store in Granbury for about two years. She modeled clothes for Wendy Ryon Western Store, showed horses for people and trained her own amazing horses as well. Jane taught 4-H horse judging and horsemanship. She taught her daughter, Liz, everything she could about horses. Jane was an excellent horsewoman. She and Sonny trained horses and competed in rodeos every summer. She loved her pets and horses so very much, and they in turn loved her right back just as much. Jane loved Christmas. She wanted everyone to feel special and loved at Christmas time. Jane enjoyed her Christmas trees every year and they were always perfect. Over the years, Jane touched many lives, and she will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sonny; and her brothers, Lee Green, and Don Green. Jane is survived by her children, Elizabeth “Liz” Holder and her husband, Johnny, and Philip “Phil” French, III; grandson, Austin Beardmore; sisters-in-law, Jane Green, Jan Curry, and Patsy Green Van Winkle; cousins, Genifer Best, and her children, Ellen Green, Amy Green, Foster Green and wife, Molly and their children; along with many extended family members and very dear friends.
