Marvin Lee “Doboard” Dunlap, 96, passed peacefully from this life at his home in Springtown on March 2, 2022. Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at White's Springtown Chapel in Springtown. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, March 7, 2022 at White's Springtown Chapel in Springtown. Interment: Tuesday, March 8, 2022 in the Springtown Cemetery following the service. Marvin was born to B.G. and Ollie Richburg Dunlap on June 5, 1925 in Estelline, Texas on a dry land cotton farm. He married Doris “Tootsie” Brawley on April 15, 1955. Marvin was given his nickname of “Doboard” by a cousin when he was five years old and that was how he was known by friends and family for the remainder of his life. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving aboard the USS Duluth as a gunner’s mate. “Doboard” worked in the oil field as a roughneck and pumper until his retirement. He was the last surviving charter member of the Springtown Volunteer Fire Department which he helped organize in 1948. Marvin was preceeded in death by his parents, his wife, Doris; son, Tony Dunlap; sisters, Alma Earl and Viola Allison; brothers, Andy, Lonnie, Wayman, J.B Dunlap and Billy Ray. Marvin is survived by his son Terry and wife, Nancy Dunlap of Loving, Texas; daughter, Patti Dunlap of Springtown; Grandchildren, Dustin and wife Tessara Dunlap of Fort Polk LA and Derek and wife Riley Dunlap of Dublin Texas. Great-grandchildren, Trinity, Tate, Wyatt, Gunner, Charlotte, Caroline, Jacob and Maggie and numerous nieces and nephews. He was loved and will be missed and remembered by all his relatives and friends who knew him.
