Martha Kay Dodson

Martha Kay Dodson passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2023 after an extended illness. She was born on February 15, 1941 in Kermit, Texas as the only child to Martha Woolverton Walker and Joseph Kendrick "Kay" Walker. She graduated from Kermit High School in 1959, then from North Texas State University with a Bachelor of Science in 1963, followed by a Masters of Library Science from East Texas State University in 1973. She spent the first 30 years of her career as a teacher and librarian in Midland, Hereford, Pecos and Weatherford, Texas. Martha opened the library in 1988 for the new Stephen F. Austin Elementary School in Weatherford. She retired from education in 1995 out of Austin Elementary, where they dedicated the library in her honor. Her second career was as a church administrator for 10 years, between First United Methodist Church of Weatherford and Christ United Methodist Church in Fort Worth. Martha married Ronald "Ronny" James Dodson on March 15, 1984, and they lived in Weatherford until he died in 2006. Martha was a friend to many, but particularly to a core group of her "siblings." She was a dedicated servant to her church, First Methodist Church in Weatherford, particularly as a member of the United Methodist Women, on the Missions Team, and cooking in the kitchen for Wednesday Ministries. She also served many other agencies and missions within the Weatherford community, including Crossroads Youth Ministry and Center of Hope. Martha will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Martha Woolverton Walker and Joseph Kendrick "Kay" Walker; her husband, Ronny Dodson; and her dear "sibling" friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at First Methodist Church of Weatherford on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. Family visitation will be from 9:00 am to 10:00 am on Thursday, December 28th at the church.
