Lucretia Ann Peebles, 83, passed away into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Friday, March 22, 2024 in Azle, Tx.
Graveside Service: 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2024 in Peebles Family Cemetery, 1074 County Road 4781, Boyd.
Lucretia was born January 15, 1941 in Wills Point, daughter of Thomas Leonard and Vivian Lee (Harrison) Smith. She was born in the home of her Uncle Clyde and Aunt Lois. She grew up in Fort Worth, attending Castleberry High School. It was on an outing with friends to watch Golden Gloves boxing that she met a boxer named H.B. Peebles. They married June 6, 1958 and started their family April 6, 1959 with the birth of Don followed by Dedra February 13, 1962 and Dale December 20, 1963.
She worked as a Secretary/Bookkeeper for a company started by H.B. Peebles and his brother, Jack, working across the lobby from her best friend, Mozelle. Lucretia was a fantastic cook and you never left her home hungry. She told a story about her husband giving a ride to a man walking in Fort Worth, headed home to Oklahoma. He was tired, hungry and his feet were covered in blisters. When H.B. brought him home, Lucretia brought a basin of warm water to him and washed his feet and dried them, then bandaged the blistered areas. She truly displayed Jesus’ parable of washing the feet of those who need Him. Then, after she fed him, H.B. actually drove him all the way to his home in Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, H.B.; her son, Dale; and grandchildren, Kenneth, Garrett, and Bailey.
Lucretia is survived by her children, Don Peebles and wife Shirley; Dedra Fullbright and husband Howard (Tooter); her sister, Linda Kay Smith; grandchildren, Alan, Angie, Russell, Jennifer, Trent and Whitney; great-grandchildren, Brylan, Leif, Avery, Barrett, Gunner, Rylie, Dylan, Archer, Jack, Rhett, Liem, Alice, River, and Riggs. We especially want to mention she was lovingly cared for in her later years by former daughter-in-law, Lisa.
