Lonnie Modale Cheney, an extraordinary father, brother, and grandfather, passed away unexpectedly November 14, 2025 at Medical City Decatur. He was born on September 21, 1955 in Loraine, Texas, the son of Bingman F. and Mattie Mary (Sherman) Cheney.
Visitation will be Monday, December 1, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at White's Azle Funeral Home, 105 Denver Trail, Azle, 76020
Graveside services will be held at Dallas - Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.
Lonnie served with the U.S. Air Force from 1976-1980. He was stationed at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas. He received his Associates in Applied Science Automotive Service Technology degree from Tarrant County Junior College in 1986. Lonnie devoted 35+ years and retired from Lockheed Martin. He raised 2 wonderful sons and doted on 2 incredible granddaughters.
Lonnie loved his family, and was loved by everyone that knew him. He was the best Pop we could have asked for! He was deeply admired, and will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Thomas, and a loving sister, Nancy Anderson.
Surviving in addition to his high school sweetheart and mother of his children, Sara Allison; are his son, Jeffrey William Cheney and his wife, Rachel, of Chicago, Illinois; his son, Andrew Dale Cheney and his wife ,Jessica, of Newark, Texas; and two grandchildren, Hailyn Cheney and Annabel Cheney.
