Laurie Moseley III was born in Tennessee, but got to Texas as soon as he could. He’s a Texan by choice, not chance. In 1950, his family moved to Dallas, where he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. He chose Texas Christian University, which at the time, was inexpensive and near home, but still away from home. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1962, and went to St. Thomas, U. S. Virgin Islands to teach in a church mission school. Returning home after the Cuban Missile Crisis, he got a job teaching mathematics and English in Glen Rose. In 1967, he married the high school home economics teacher, Julia Huddleston. They had two children, Michael and Marie. In 1970, Laurie received his MA and began work on his doctorate. In 1972, he became Principal of Glen Rose Elementary and Junior High Schools. In 1977, the family moved to Springtown, Julia’s hometown, where Laurie taught mathematics, physics and became Director of Academic UIL.  Laurie soon moved to the position of Director of Curriculum and Special Programs.  Most people will remember him as an educator and life-long learner. He was one of the most well-read people that you could meet. Laurie taught adult ESL and GED at night and defensive driving on the weekends.  He tutored and guided countless people toward their goals. He loved helping others learn. He and Julia both retired in 2002, and have been very active since then.  Laurie founded and served as curator of the Springtown Legends Museum and wrote a weekly column on western history for the Springtown Epigraph.  He served as president of the Texas Archaeological Society, president of the Parker County Archaeological Society, Lieutenant Governor of the Optimist Club in Springtown, president of the Chamber of Commerce, president of the Springtown Area Senior Citizens and a director for the Springtown Education Foundation. Laurie Moseley was a devoted family man who took great pride in his children and grandchildren.  He raised his family in the First United Methodist Church and was an example to others.  He served in many capacities and taught sunday school for more than 20 years. Mr. Moseley loved nature.  He was a life-long outdoorsman and worked for a time as a park ranger and volunteer firefighter.  He hunted, fished and camped with family and friends.  He was a steward for the Texas Historical Commission and spent much of his free time in Texas archeology. He was a good guy, a saver, a rule follower, a patriot who encouraged civic engagement. He loved playing games and watching the Springtown Porcupines, Dallas Cowboys, Horned Frogs and any Texas team. He was preceded in death by parents, Laurie Moseley Jr. and Marie Eubanks Moseley; and sister, Katie Moseley LaRoe. Survivors: wife, Julia Moseley; children, Michael Moseley of Fort Worth, and Marie Moseley Medina and husband, Manny, of Midlothian; sister, Susie Jones and her husband, Don, of Allen; sisters-in-law, Margaret Huddleston Avery of Springtown and Mary VanZile and her husband, Larry, of Arlington; grandchildren, Marcus Medina and Laurie Medina of Midlothian; and nieces and nephews.
