Julianne C. Owens of Azle, 71, passed away March 18, 2026 after a long illness.
Julie, beloved wife of Robert R. Owens and daughter of Julius and Margaret Clark of Azle, was an award-winning copy editor for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and previously worked at the San Antonio Light and several other Texas newspapers as a writer and/or editor. Later, her career path led her to the Dallas Arboretum, where she helped to raise millions for the Children's Garden. She later also was a fundraiser for KERA-TV and Texas Wesleyan University and worked as a public information writer for Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth.
Julie was known for her verbal skills, editing acumen, sharp wit and loyalty to friends. She also loved animals, taking in and caring for numerous cats during her life.
She is survived by her husband and several cousins.
Plans for a celebration of life are pending.
