Johnnie became a mother at age 17 and gave birth to six children in ten years. Most of her adult life was spent raising those children, often with minimal resources. She instilled in all of them the gifts of creativity and improvisation, along with perseverance, to use what they had. Her children have grown up to be productive citizens and have blessed her with eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Her love of cooking desserts, gardening, and painting has blessed many. Johnnie was strong in her Christian faith and had a heart of service. She was a long-time member of Mesquite Church of Christ. Over the years, she spent many hours volunteering her time in service to others. “In honor of Johnnie’s love for nature and gardening, live plants or donations may be given to the Silver Creek Assisted Living Center, 1300 Silver Creek Azle Road, Azle, Texas. These gifts will be used in the further establishment of the James and Johnnie Bybee Memorial Garden.” The family would like to extend their gratitude to the owners and staff of Silver Creek Assisted Living Center for their compassionate care of Johnnie through her final days.
