John Richard Underwood

John Underwood, 71, passed away Thursday February 24, 2022 in Weatherford. Memorial Visitation: Friday, March 4, 2022 6-8pm Family Sharing Time: 7:00pm. John was born February 18, 1951 in Welch, Oklahoma , son of William Nelson and Doris Reed Underwood. John proudly served his country in the United States Army. He met and married the love of his life, Christy Phillips in 1973 and they would go on to spend 48 happy years together raising their family. Christy and John spent their early years in Nebraska, and would move to Azle in 1987. John was a registered Cherokee Indian, and was proud of his heritage. He enjoyed working with his hands, and made a career out of doing so. He was resourceful and had a great talent for problem solving. He had a great sense of humor and loved to play jokes. While he had many interests, his first love was his family, of whom he was extremely proud. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, April Underwood; two brothers, Edwin and Arthur Underwood; and sister, Ethel Duschanek. Survivors include his loving wife, Christy; Children, Matthew Underwood, Sheila Rollins, Caprice Ladner (Chad); grandchildren, Tylor, Carly, Cory, Mikey, Niki, Nathyn, Noah, Jakob, Peyton, Logan, Adalyn, Hayden; brothers, Jim, Rod, Kenneth, William, and Jerry, all of Nebraska; sister, Willa Roeder, also of Nebraska, mother-in law, Wanda Phillips, of Azle; and many other extended family members and friends.
