John Mahaffey, 88, passed peacefully in his sleep on August 30, 2025.
John was born on September. 26, 1936 to Mark and Joseph Mahaffey. He was a twin with Don Mahaffey. They were number six and seven out of eight children. John was born on the North side of Fort Worth and lived there until 1942 when the family moved out to some land off of Jacksboro Highway, where he lived the rest of his life.
John worked 35 years at the Montgomery Wards department store on 7th Street.
John is the last of the eight children of Mark and Josephine, being preceded in death by Charles, Bill, Margery (Brinkley), Joe, Paul, Don (his twin), and David.
John remained single until age 73 when he married the widow of his brother Paul. He and Francis enjoyed almost 15 years of marriage, until Francis passed away in 2024.
John is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
John enjoyed making greeting cards and displaying his mother‘s artwork. He also had interests in cars and clocks. He was a regular customer at Westside Cafe for nearly 15 years.
John was a kind and caring man with a love for flashy cars, clothing, jewelry and watches. John had a strong faith in God and was looking forward to being reunited with his family.
He will be missed.
There will be a small Memorial Gathering at Ash Creek cemetery in Azle on September 26, 2025 at 11 AM for family and friends.
