Jeanne Marie Corniuk

Jeanne Marie Corniuk, age 92, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, passed away July 11, 2022 in Decatur, Texas. Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 15, 2022 at White’s Chapel in Springtown. Interment: 11:30 a.m., Friday, July 15, 2022 in Springtown Cemetery. Jeanne was born May 8, 1930 in Port Huron, Michigan to Lyndon Davies and Pearl Sly Davies. She met her future husband, Joe, while visiting her aunt in Detroit, Michigan, and they were married for 46 years. They lived in Michigan until Joe’s job moved them to Anderson, Indiana, Fort Thomas, Kentucky and eventually they settled and lived in Mentor-on-the-Lake, Ohio, where she spent 55 years. She just moved to Azle, Texas in January as she wanted to escape those Ohio winters. She loved the sunshine, reading and becoming more active in Texas, and her pastimes were walking outside when the weather allowed, playing bingo, reading, shopping and hosting others in her apartment. She was known as the "cookie grandma" as she loved to bake with her grandchildren. She also loved to bake for her church bake sales and her baked goods were the first to be sold at the bake sales as everyone loved her desserts. Jeanne loved her church and was loved by the people in the church. She loved to play games with her grandchildren, (and was known to be caught cheating on occasion). Everyone who got to know her commented on what a sweet lady she was. During the summer, she loved working in her flower garden and she loved the holidays and would open her home to anyone who didn’t have family to be with during the holidays. Family was very important to her and she was sure her kids always had dinner as a family on Sundays. The tradition continued when the boys had families of their own. She loved her dessert and butter pecan ice cream. When asked, at the age of 92, by a nurse, what the secret to longevity was, the only answer she had was she liked coffee cake for breakfast, candy for lunch and don’t forget dessert after dinner. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe Corniuk and her son, Scott. Jeanne is survived by her sons, Lyndon Corniuk and wife Suzette; Joseph Corniuk and wife Diane, daughter-in-law, Joan; sister, Virginia Rutledge; grandchildren Nick, Alexandria, Courtney, Raquel, Cameron, and Jessica; multiple great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family asks, in lieu of flowers, Jeanne wanted donations to go to her long time church in Mentor, Ohio. The church has a fund set up with her name on it.
