Jean Frances Rice

Jean (Pennington) Rice, 84, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2023, in Fort Worth. Graveside Service: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Memory Gardens of the Valley Memorial Park, 5600 Mineral Wells Hwy., Weatherford, Texas 76088. Jean was born January 3, 1939 in Mankato, Minnesota, daughter of John Truman and Harriet Ethel (Johnson) Pennington. She met the love of her life, Alvist “Al” Verdell Rice in 1959 while she was singing in the choir at First Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia. They were married on January 16, 1960, and they would go on to spend 61 happy years together until Al’s passing in 2021. She is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Al Rice; son, Jim Rice; and grandsons, Sam Phillips and Chance Johnson. Survivors include her children, Pam Phillips and husband, Dan, Brenda Browning and husband, Mark, and David Rice and wife, Cris; daughter-in-law, Pam Rice; grandchildren, Chase Rice, Shauna Rice, Katie Shell, Amanda Hopper, Brandon Black, Kellie Patterson, Jodie Phillips, Chandler Rice, Jarrod Black, Drew Phillips, Madeline Lloyd, Rebecca Rice, Rachel Browning, and Luke Browning; many great-grandchildren; brother, John Pennington; sister, Sue Cromer; sister-in-law, Leta LaVonne Rice Boyer; and a host of extended family members and friends.
