Jean Hayes Jump passed on Friday, July 18, 2025 at home in Fort Worth, Texas. Born in Enterprise, Alabama on March 11, 1933 to Howell and Bessie Hayes, she was one of six children. She received her teaching degree from Troy State Teachers AA College, where she participated in every intramural and club sport available. She was the first female to receive a degree from Cal Poly when she obtained her Masters’ Degree.
In recent years, she’s been known on the trails as “Jean Jean, the walking machine.” A life-long lover of exercise, she walked five miles a day up until her cancer diagnosis.
She is survived by her children, Jerra Lewis, Lumey Jump and partner, Daryl Richter, Jacob Jump and wife, Amy, and Ramsey Jump. Grandchildren are Hayes Lewis, Jessa Collier, Christopher Buse, Tanner Jump, Kolby Griffin, and Olivia Jump. She was also loved by great-grandchildren, Lily Lewis and Hayes Lewis, numerous nieces and nephews, her neighbors, and friends from the trail.
Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2025, 9700 Saints Circle, Fort Worth, Texas 76108.
In lieu of flowers, please take a walk. Preferably with a dog.
