James Edward Smith, 87, went home to be with his Lord Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at home with his family by his side. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at North Side Baptist Church in Weatherford. James was born February 15, 1934 in Goldthwaite, son of Charles Edward and Stella Mosier Smith. He graduated from Goldthwaite High School. James continued his education, attending Tarleton State University and San Marcos College, later earning his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from the University of Texas at El Paso. James met the love of his life, Nancy Meeks, and they were married June 2, 1956 at First Baptist Church of Van Horn. They lived in Kent for four years and he taught in Van Horn during that time. They moved to El Paso for seven years, and then back to Van Horn where they raised their children. James was a school teacher, touching many lives in his long career. He was a member of Parker County Woodcarvers and a 20-year member and deacon at North Side Baptist Church where he loved serving the Lord. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Smith; mother, Stella Smith; brother, Jerry Smith; sister, Noreta Henderson; and daughter, Marianne Angell. Survivors: Wife, Nancy Meeks Smith; sons, Steve Smith and wife, Kim, Joe Smith and wife, Christy, and Paul Smith; daughter, Marguerite Beims and husband, Terry; grandchildren, Marylin Angell, Linda Eilers and husband, Steve, Craig Smith and wife, Morgan, Katie Phillips and husband, Jacob, Dillon Beims and wife, Holly, Josh Beims and fiance, Kamille Clifton, Trevor Smith, Megan Avery and husband, Matt, Chase Smith, Kylie Smith, Kaiden Smith, Cory Manke and Chantel Vincent; six great-grandchildren; sister, Peggy Smith; and many extended family members and friends.
