James "Jim" Cleve Reader

Weatherford - James "Jim" Cleve Reader, 77, passed away Monday, August 16, 2021. Jim was born June 26, 1944 in El Paso, son of James Monroe Reader and Reba Nell Smith Reader. His father’s military service took the family to many destinations including Indiana and Japan. Jim graduated from Hammond High School in 1962 and then received a degree in Education while attending Stephen F. Austin. There he met the love of his life, Alice Ann Smith, and they were married in 1968. The couple settled down in Longview, where Jim earned a Masters in Criminal Justice and he served as a deputy for the Gregg County Sheriff’s department. Jim was well known for working in his shop where he made stained glass windows and did wood working. After retirement, he moved to Weatherford, to be near family, and spent his free time serving as a life member of the Weatherford Citizen Police Academy Association. Jim is preceded in death by his parents He is survived by his wife, Alice; son, Jonathan Reader and wife, Amy, of Weatherford; daughter, Jamie Bridges and husband, Jeremiah, of Lewisville; grandchildren, Parker Bowman and wife, Rebecca, Jack Bowman, Jordan Bridges, and Bailey Bridges; great-grandchildren, Charli Bowman, and Reader Bowman; brother, Michael Reader and wife, Donna. Jim will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Graveside Inurnment: 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Memory Gardens of the Valley, 5600 Mineral Wells Hwy., Weatherford, Texas 76088.
