James Price Hamilton age 90 of Poolville, Texas was born August 14, 1935 in Doan’s, Texas during the height of the Dust Bowl.
Transitioned April 9, 2026 at Springtown Park Nursing and Rehab in Springtown, TX.
The Celebration of Life Service will be May 9, 2026 at 1:00 pm at the Poolville Tabernacle next to the Methodist church, 230 N Church St. Please join us and share your memories.
He graduated from Northside High School north of Vernon, TX in 1953. Active from elementary age and all through high school in both 4-H and FFA clubs, he learned by doing, winning many ribbons for his animal projects and farm crops. A cowboy to the core.
Married Iris Hunter of Hess, Oklahoma on October 18, 1958. They celebrated more than 60 years of marriage.
Served in the National Guard Service Battery 645 AFA BN (Armored Field Artillery Battalion), 49th Armored “Lone Star” Division T.N.G. (Texas National Guard) at Ft Hood from 1955-1961.
Worked on a pole crew in Louisiana for his uncle, Les Hamilton in his early twenties. Several Feed Lots where he was foreman or manager. Salesman for Altus Tractor Company
Owned and operated the Mt View Livestock Auction in Oklahoma. Worked for Tri-County Electric in Azle as a lineman. Order Buyer for Foley-Allen Commission Co. from 1971 to 1987 with an office in the Ft Worth Stockyards.
An appraiser of cattle for banks in Azle, he used his sharp eye and keen knowledge of all the breeds to give a true and honest evaluation of a herd. Rancher and farmer in Poolville from 1990 to Nov of 2025 when his last cows were sold at the Decatur Livestock Market.

Lifetime love of cattle and dogs and sheep and goats and donkeys and horses and cars.
He loved history and family history and was proud to be a descendant of the men and women who settled at Doan’s Crossing. Whatever community he lived in, he was involved in its growth and improvement.
He could “engineer” anything from a farm tool or a machine to a metal roof. He built a machine called Big John that looked like a cross between an army tank and a crane for the work he did on a Louisiana pole crew.
Preceded in death by his wife, Iris Hamilton; father, Robert Lloyd Hamilton; and his mother, Delma Francis Hamilton.
Survived by his brother, Joe Hamilton and wife, Sandra Hamilton; son, Russ Hamilton and wife, Tonya York Hamilton of Decatur; daughter, Cassie Hamilton Bullock and husband, Erwin L Bullock of Arlington, TX; Grandchildren, Grant Hunter Hamilton and wife, Morgan Atchley Hamilton of Haltom City, TX, Preston York Hamilton and wife, Anna Chastain Hamilton of Hurst. TX, Thomas Hunter Bullock of DeLeon, TX, Price Latane Bullock of Boston, Mass, Wesley Owen Bullock of Arlington, TX; Great-granddaughters, Parker Kate Hamilton, Palmer Olivia Hamilton, Payton Blair Hamilton, Sadie James Hamilton and Sage Elliot Hamilton
