Interment: Friday, May 8, 2026 in Springtown Cemetery in Springtown, Texas.

He was born October 26, 1958, in Azle, Texas to Herbert Hoover Carter and Margaret Ann (Earp) Carter.

Jimmy was raised in Springtown, where he grew up on a dairy farm alongside his parents and brothers. His childhood shaped his deep love for the outdoors, especially fishing.

A graduate of Springtown High School, Class of 1977, Jimmy married his high school sweetheart, Rene, on September 24th, 1977. Together, they built a life rooted in love, raising three children and creating a legacy centered on family. He remained in Springtown his entire life, a testament to his loyalty and connection to his community.

Jimmy dedicated his career to the construction industry, where he thrived on “hands-on” work that kept him outdoors. As a Plant Manager for Reynolds Asphalt, he was known not only for his strong work ethic, but for the genuine care he showed his team. He treated them like family, going out of his way, even during long overnight jobs, to make sure everyone was taken care of.

He was raised in the Methodist church, and later became a member of First Baptist Church of Springtown in 1970.

Jimmy was a selfless man whose joy came from his family. He often said he needed nothing more than to know his children and grandchildren were well, and to spend time fishing. He shared his love for fishing and the outdoors with each one of them, creating memories that will be treasured for generations.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; his maternal grandparents, Reba and Carl Earp; his paternal grandparents, James and Maude Carter; and his grandson, Tre’ Jordan Steen.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Rene Carter; his son, Joshua Carter and wife Kim; his daughters, Lacey Steen and husband Jimmy and Shelby Stanton and husband Cole; his grandchildren, McKenzi and Kylie Carter, Caden and Rhett Steen, Bowen, Bennett, Barrett and Blayke Stanton. Jimmy is also survived by his best friend and fishing partner of 40 years, Donald McBryde and his wife Judy.
