James Dean Carpenter, age 60, of Springtown, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on October 13, 2026.
James was born on September 4, 1966, in Teague, Texas, to Linda and Jerald. He was also blessed with a stepfather, Vernon, and stepmother, Sue, who were part of his family throughout his life. James made Springtown his home in 1996, where he spent more than 30 years building a life and making memories with his family.
James met the love of his life, Cindy, 45 years ago at a roller skating rink. What began at the skating rink grew into a lifetime together. They married in 1987 and spent 39 years as husband and wife, building a home, raising a family, and sharing a life together.
James and Cindy raised three children, Shandie, Jamie, and Dudley. As much as James loved being a husband and father, one of the greatest joys of his life was being “PawPaw” to his six grandchildren: Eddy, Rosie, Chris, Coco, Mason, and Jason.
James was funny, stubborn, hardworking, and unmistakably himself. He loved being outdoors and was happiest when he could spend his time outside. He enjoyed tractors, hog hunting, visiting friends, going to Uncle Bill’s, and learning to sail. He also loved a good game of Spades—although anyone who played with him knew that losing was not something he enjoyed.
Those who knew James will remember his sense of humor, his determination, and his strong work ethic. His stubborn streak was part of who he was, but so was the love he had for his family. He leaves behind countless stories, laughs, and memories that his family will continue to share for generations.
James is survived by his wife of 39 years, Cindy; his children, Shandie and her husband, Josh; Jamie and her husband, David; and Dudley; his six grandchildren, Eddy, Rosie, Chris, Coco, Mason, and Jason; his mother, Linda; his siblings, Geneva, Mark, and Giftane; and many extended family members and friends who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jerald; his stepfather, Vernon; and his stepmother, Sue.
James’s passing leaves an immeasurable absence in the lives of those who loved him. His family takes comfort in knowing that he passed peacefully at home, in the community where he built so much of his life.
He was James to many, Dad to three, and PawPaw to six—and he will be deeply missed.
