James Martin Bybee was born March 5, 1930 in Childress to James Madison and Lula Mable Graham Bybee. At a young age they moved to East Texas where he grew up farming in the Cash, Van Syckle, Greenville area. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the Army Reserves. James became an ordained minister May 10, 1959. He pastored Roanoke Baptist Church in East Texas and Ridgeway Baptist Church in Ridgeway, Texas. He is remembered by family members as a deeply devoted servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. James was a former member of the Masonic Lodge in Forney, Texas. He retired as a painter of airplane parts from Red Bird Airport in Dallas. James was married to Doris Abbott of Dixon, Texas for 17 years. They had three children, Martin Lane, Mary Elizabeth and Pamela Ruth. He was married to Bertha Jane Daniels (Janie) until her death in 1994. In 2004 he married his beloved Johnnie Chambers. Together they ministered to the sick and dying of their church with food, prayer and fellowship in homes, hospitals and nursing facilities. They moved to Azle where they lived until his death April 18, 2022.
