Jack M. Hulce

May 8, 1935 — July 17, 2023

Jack M. Hulce died Monday, July 17, 2023 in Weatherford, Texas at the age of 88. A private family service will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Jack was born on May 8, 1935 in South San Francisco, California to Glenn and Maxine Hulce. He was raised from the age of two by his paternal grandparents, Eugene and Cora Hulce in Clovis, California. Jack was born with clubbed feet and his parents were told he would never walk. But, after numerous surgeries at Shriners Children's Hospital in San Francisco, California, Jack went on to have an active childhood and spent many hours riding his bicycle in the foothills below the Sierra Nevada Mountains just above Fresno and Clovis, California. Jack enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1953. He received a Battlefield Commission during his second tour of Vietnam and retired in 1977 with the rank of Captain. He embodied the motto "Once a Marine, Always a Marine". In April of 1958, Jack married Peggy Ann Darby. They spent the next 65 years raising a family and building a life together. After he retired, they spent time extensively traveling the U.S. in their motorhome. Jack never met a challenge he couldn't overcome. In 1960 he built an 18’ tall Marine in Dress Blues that was displayed at the Oregon State Fair. Jack was the ultimate do-it-yourself handyman and was proficient at upholstery, cabinet making, car, motorcycle, and home repair. He and Peggy spent untold hours repairing, rejuvenating, and renovating gently used toys for the Marine Corps Toys For Tots drive. If he couldn't find the right tool or part, he'd just make it. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and two brothers, James Ryker Hulce and Charles Evan Hulce. Surviving Jack are his wife, Peggy Hulce; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Debbie Hulce; daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Dennis Hanson; and grandchildren, Sara Hulce, and Brad Hulce and wife, Cass.
