Herbert Bolton Fowler, 89, who was born on January 15, 1936, to Amos and Maude (Wallis) Fowler, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Whites Chapel of Memories, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford, Texas 76086. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m.
Memorials: For those who would like to make a donation, Herb’s favorite charity was Gideons International.
Herb was raised in Weatherford, Texas, and graduated from Weatherford High School in 1954. He attended Weatherford College for two years before joining the United States Marines, where he served for two years as a marksmanship instructor and the champion boxer of his division. After leaving the military, Herb attended the University of North Texas, where he was a member of Delta Sigma Pi and graduated with a degree in business in 1960.
Herb started a modest parts business out of a truck and grew it into Fowler Automotive, a successful wholesale and retail operation. In 1971, he married the love of his life, JoAnn Fowler. Herb joined the Parker County Sheriff’s Posse in 1969 and served as captain in 1989. He also served his community as a Gideon, and was a member and Sunday School teacher at the First Baptist Church of Weatherford, Texas.
Herb enjoyed many things in life, but it was the simplest pleasures that brought him the most joy: working on his farm with his cows and horses, hunting with his buddies, and telling jokes. Anyone who ever met Herb was always introduced to him as Robert Redford—his favorite joke of all—but what he enjoyed most was spending time by the side of his beloved wife, JoAnn Fowler.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Maude (Wallis) Fowler; his brother, Ronnie Fowler; and his sister, Bernice (Fowler) Tanner.
Herb will be remembered fondly by his wife, JoAnn Fowler, and his two sisters, Maurine Frost and Linda Stamschror. He will also be remembered by his great-great-niece and great-great-nephew, Romalyn and Troy Rodgers, as well as by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
