Helen was born on January 5, 1939 in Aledo and was the first child born in 1939 in Parker County. She grew up and lived in Aledo with her family until halfway through high school when she transferred and graduated from Poolville High School where she was a fierce competitor on the school’s basketball team. She then attended Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, TX. She began teaching English in Abernathy, TX and then worked at Wilmer Hutchins High School for the superintendent until she could start teaching. She married Durwin Dill in 1963. She was a devoted mother and supported her children and all of their activities throughout their childhoods. Her teaching career continued in Alvarado, Texas when her two children were teenagers and she and Durwin worked hard to put both children through college. She quit teaching in 1990 to open Yesterday’s Ice Cream and Sandwich Shop on York Avenue in Weatherford. She and Durwin ran the shop together successfully for over 13 years. After selling the restaurant, she and Durwin traveled and spent time with family and friends. She also shared her love of singing with many in the community through the Sensational Singers. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Durwin Dill; son, Jay Dill of Fort Worth, his wife, Kim and their daughters, Madeline and Caroline and son, Grant; daughter, Melissa Dill Moorman of Fort Worth and husband, Thomas along with their daughter, Emma and son, Bennett; as well as her sister, Judy Campbell; many nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends.
