Guadalupe (Lupe) Martinez Jayroe, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on Monday, November 3, 2025, surrounded by family members after a long illness.
Lupe was born and spent her early years in Harlingen, Texas. She was educated and achieved a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas, a profession she practiced for many years until retiring in 2006.
In 1966 Lupe’s first husband, USAF Major Gerald E. Olson, was lost to hostile fire in Vietnam, leaving her as a widow with two young sons, Mark and John Olson, two and one years of age.
In 1976 she was married to USAF Colonel (retired) Julius S. Jayroe.
Lupe was predeceased by her parents, Benigno and Carmen (Capistran) Martinez; a brother, Benigno Martinez, Jr.; two sisters, Delia (Martinez) de la Cruz, and Carmen (Martinez) Gutierrez; and her Godson, Father Antonio Martinez, Jr.
Family member survivors are her husband, Julius Jayroe; her sister, Maria Irma (Martinez) Crow (Richard); and her brother, Antonio Martinez (Carla). Additional surviving family members include her two sons, Mark Olson (Kelly), and John Olson; her grandsons, Matthew, Miguel and Diego Olson; her granddaughters, McKenzie Chuy (Luis), and Melissa Mansell (Reece); her great-grandson, Luis Chuy, Jr.; a great-granddaughter, Lauren Mansell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lupe was a wildcard in spirit. Funny and feisty. She lived a good life and shared more love with the world than she received. Throughout it all she stayed close to God. We will all miss her dearly. Gracias a la vida.
